History of the CALM Buoy
Since the early sixties, the Catenary Anchor Leg Mooring (CALM) buoy has been a successful system for exporting the oil from the production platform to the shuttle tanker. In the beginning CALM buoys were used in relatively shallow water at near shore locations, often in very harsh wave conditions. Nowadays CALM buoy’s can be used in any offshore location. For example, the West of Africa, Gulf of Mexico, North Sea and even in arctic conditions CALM buoys are used.
Continous innovative solution have stretched the operating area and applications of the CALM buoy. The most recent leap to the arctic areas has become available ever since the polar regions started to melt down. The vast reserves of oil and gas in the nothern region make the CALM buoy the solution for save and reliable offloading in any weather condition.
